Which Is Better For Meeting People: Tinder Or A Bar

Do You Have A Better Chance Of Finding Love On Tinder Or In “Real Life”?

Tinder has been all the rage for years now, and its popularity only continues to grow. In fact, some dating experts (such as this writer) argue that quite a few people have even become overly dependent on the app, losing some of the skills required to meet people in the real world.

Of course, there are hundreds of places you can physically go to meet someone new, but the list alone could fill a dozen books.

So for the sake of argument, I’d like to compare the effectiveness of Tinder to that of the most traditional meeting places of all: the common bar. Here’s an objective breakdown of the two matchmaking settings, category by category:

Comfort

Let’s face it: anonymously flipping through potential lovers in the palm of your hand is way easier than trudging out to a bar on a cold winter night. There’s nothing more convenient than lining up a date on the comfort of your own couch. Plus, the chance of walking away with a bruised ego is much lower when you can hide behind the safety of a discreet app. Tinder is simply more fun and less trouble than risking rejection in the real world.

Winner: Tinder

Conversion

If you do manage to start talking with someone in person at a bar and it goes well, that person will likely be willing to give you his or her number. He or she might even be willing to go home with you right then and there. Instant gratification! An in-person first meeting is much better for conveying personality – your potential date will feel more confident knowing exactly what you’re all about.

And with increased vested interest, the chance of developing something meaningful is much higher. On the other hand, a Tinder date can take weeks or months to set up – if it ever gets off the ground at all.

Winner: Bar

Numbers

Tinder’s greatest strength is its ability to put a dater in front of the greatest amount of people possible in the quickest amount of time, thus increasing the probability of a match. Unless the social venues you frequent are populated only by thousands of members of the opposite sex, Tinder has any bar, club, or party beat when it comes to selection. Plus, I believe that it’s important to get as much dating experience as possible before settling down, and Tinder is the perfect facilitator of such a steady stream of interactions.

Winner: Tinder

Quality

When was the last time you got picked up by a spam-bot in a bar? Yeah, I didn’t think so. Not only that, but a bar pre-sorts certain types of people for you. If you head to a biker joint, for example, you’ll be sure to meet biker dudes and chicks. A club in Miami, on the other hand, will attract a different type of party-loving crowd. There’s no such personality sorting feature on Tinder. It’s just a giant crapshoot based on age range and location (both of which a bar will reveal, too).

Winner: Bar

Conclusion

Not using Tinder at all is to deny yourself a valuable training ground that provides the opportunity to meet hundreds of different types of individuals. Yet, taking the app too seriously and relying on it solely will prevent you from meeting quality people who simply don’t use dating apps – one of which might just be who you’re meant to spend the rest of your life with! I strongly recommend taking advantage of both methods of meeting people to enrich your dating life, as each will benefit you in different ways. Have an open mind and strive for balance!
